How to take cake orders on WhatsApp without sending your menu every time
Most home bakers in India already take orders on WhatsApp. The slow part is the back-and-forth before the order: sending photos, typing prices, explaining flavours and sizes, and asking for the address. A menu link answers those questions once.
- Put the whole menu on one page. Each cake gets a photo, price, size (500 g, 1 kg) and options such as flavour. Mark items veg or egg, tag bestsellers, and switch an item to sold out with one tap.
- Say how and when people can order. Pickup or delivery, the area you deliver to, delivery fee, minimum order, and lead time such as "custom cakes: order one day ahead".
- Share one link everywhere. Put it in your Instagram bio and WhatsApp status, and print the QR code for your counter or packaging.
- Receive a clear order message. The customer taps "Send order" and WhatsApp opens with their items, total, name and address already written. You reply to confirm.
What a customer's order looks like
This is the message format your page sends to your WhatsApp (the items here are from our demo bakery):
Hi Sweet Crumbs! I'd like to order: 1. Chocolate Truffle Cake (500 g) × 1 = ₹650 2. Choco-chip Cookies (250 g) × 1 = ₹280 Delivery: ₹40 *Total: ₹970* Order type: Home delivery Name: Priya Address: B-12, Vaishali Nagar
Nothing is charged by Chowkly on this order. The customer pays you by cash or with the UPI button on your page, which opens their UPI app with the exact amount.
What you can show on a bakery page
- Menu with categories (cakes, brownies, cookies), search, and veg or egg marks
- Sizes and flavours per item, MRP and offer price, "ask for price" for custom cakes
- "Open now" or "Closed" based on your timings, plus a temporary closure message
- Pickup, delivery or dine-in, with delivery fee, free-delivery amount and minimum order
- Your FSSAI number, address with map, Instagram and Google review link
A note on FSSAI: food businesses in India, including home kitchens, generally need at least a basic FSSAI registration. Check what applies to you on the official FoSCoS portal.
What Chowkly does not do
It is not a delivery app and has no online payment gateway or order dashboard. Orders arrive as WhatsApp messages, and you confirm, take payment and arrange delivery yourself, the way you do today. If you want a full online store with card payments and order tracking, a store builder is a better fit.
Questions home bakers ask us
How much does it cost?
₹199 per month plus a one-time ₹999 setup, with no commission on orders. See pricing.
Can customers order custom cakes?
Yes. List a custom cake with "ask for price" or a "from" price, and customers add details such as the message on the cake in the order note. You confirm the final price on WhatsApp.
Can I stop taking orders on some days?
Yes. Mark days as closed in your timings, or switch on a temporary closure with a message such as "Taking Diwali orders from 25 Oct".
Do I need a shop address?
No. Many home bakers only offer delivery or pickup by appointment. You can show just your area and city.
